Braves - Signed White

Atlanta Braves - Signed P Gabe White to a 1-year contract.

As long as Leo Mazzone is the pitching coach of the Braves, I won’t criticize a pitching acquisition, no matter how ludicrous.  I’m tired of looking dumb and the Braves could sign Brad Pennington to a 3-year deal worth $12 million and he’d come in and be Randy Myers in his prime.  Gabe White is a good deal better than Pennington and will beat that ERA number.

Nice deal- I think White will be pretty good. wish the Giants had signed him instead of JC..

considering how he's pitched the past two years, i think i'd even take that zips era...even before the mazzone factor.

Considering Mazone is good for about half a run on reliever ERA, it's going to look great, and cost some other team 3/$9mil next season.

White's K/W was strong last year so I'm betting Atl's scouts figured he was healthy and the 14 HRs allowed in 60 IP could be fixed.

Then there's this from the AJC: "He's had good years in the past," general manager John Schuerholz said, "and we think becoming part of our Braves pitching environment, he's got a chance to help us."

Some 2004 stats:

Player A: 7.2 K/9, 3.4 BB/9, 1.9 HR/9
Player B: 6.2 K/9, 1.8 BB/9, 2.1 HR/9

I guess being a starter (Milton) really is more valuable than being a reliever (White).
