Brewers - Signed Riske

Milwaukee Brewers - Signed P David Riske to a 3-year contract.

Total value looks like it’s $13 million.  Riske’s been one of the more unnoticed solid middle relievers in baseball (his lowest ERA+ the last 5 years is 117), so he came cheaper than Linebrink did.  Considering the market’s going to be insane as the winter goes on, I think the Brewers are getting a pretty good deal - Riske’s not an overpowering reliever but he’ll be a solid #2/#3 bullpen guy.

2008 ZiPS Projection - David Riske

Projection 3   2 58   0   64   63   27 10 23 54 3.80
Top Comps:  Steve Reed, Xavier Hernandez

Looks like a RISK-EE signing to me! HAHA!

No? Ok, sorry.

Very smart signing for a contender. Riske's the kind of quality reliever that you sign two or three of to help solidify your pen of otherwise cheap guys.

There is also a club option for a fourth year at $4.75 million and some $2 million in incentives. Still, a very smart deal.

And he could close if he has to. I like this signing a lot. Especially with the noises about Turnbow closing again. Please, god, no.

luis pena will be the closer by the time the calender turns to april, so i wouldn't worry too much about derrick turnbow.

Turnbow will be traded. He was named "starter" in a cheap attempt to boost his trade value.

I meant, "Closer".
