Cardinals - Acquired Maroth

St. Louis Cardinals - Acquired P Mike Maroth from the Detroit Tigers for something or other.

Rosenthal wasn’t very specific. But you Tigers fans should calm down as I’m taking a wild guess and saying that it’s not going to be Pujols or an exciting name on the other side of the ledger. Or a top prospect. Not that I could name one in the Cardinals barrel-scraping minor league organization. But it’ll be some non-entity hitting .221 for Springfield, because the player the Tigers are giving is Mike Maroth.

Maroth, at one point, looked like a good inning-eater and that’s kind of what the Cards need right now, but the former 20-game loser is pitching like one this season. No real help to the Cards here.

It's been reported the Tigers have a list of possible players and will scout them before pulling the trigger on the trade. What I was wondering is can the Cardinals rescind any of those players after they give them the list? If somebody starts mashing can they change their mind, or are they just stuck hoping their scouts haven't screwed them?

There isn't any reason for the Tigers to trade Maroth for nothing. He'll be in the Cards rotation.

They should get back at least a mid-grade prospect for him, nevermind all of his flaws.

Seriously, have you looked at Maroth's peripherals? Unless he's about to get healthy fast, he doesn't warrant a mid-grade prospect or even a spot in a rotation featuring Wells, Wainwright, Looper, Wellemeyer, and Thompson.

Maybe we are talking past each other. I would expect Tyler Greene, Mark McCormick, Mark Hamilton type prospects to be on the list.

You underestimate just how horrid Maroth has been. He's gotten very lucky with runners in scoring position on the year and his ERA is still over 5.

man i've heard some far fetched rumors out of the tiger fan base, everything from braden looper to bryan anderson. puh-leeze.try dan nelson or kevin ool. maroth is not going to save the rotation, that is certain. if anything, i expect him to be about as effective as todd wellemeyer has, only able to go beyond 4 innings.

If nothing else, Mike Maroth is a classy guy. Not that class is the answer to the Cardinals' pitching woes.
