Cardinals - Claimed Wellemeyer

St. Louis Cardinals - Claimed P Todd Wellemeyer off waivers from the Kansas City Royals.

Probably not even as useful as shifting deck chairs on the Titanic.  The Cardinals should be happy that they’re 16-21 since they only have one hitter not playing horribly and only one starting pitcher not pitching horribly.  The bullpen has been amazingly good (the 5 main guys have allowed 13 earned runs in a month and a half), but they have no leads to hold.  Wellemeyer will mopup games for the Cardinals, something that’s needed a lot these days, and will put up an ERA in the high 4s.

Royals 2007:
Team ERA without Wellemeyer -- 4.23
Team ERA with Wellemeyer -- 4.50

Wellemeyer's ERA -- 10.34 over 12 appearances

Finally, another Royals victory over the Cardinals!

I don't know what makes me angrier...

That the Cubs are performing about as well as I expected and thus aren't able to take advantage of the STL follies... or that the Cubs' mediocrity makes it harder to ENJOY the STL follies.

If Welly puts up an ERA in the high 4s in the NL, its further proof that the NL is turning into a glorified AAA league.

Dave Duncan is magic.

I predict an ERA of 7.62, as the man has a nice straight fastball, mediocre secondary pitches, and absolutely no control. Duncan can cut his era by 2.5 runs easy!

I suppose a play on the name Niedermeyer wouldn't be appropriate since Wellemeyer's essentially replacing Hancock.
