Cardinals - Signed Rincon
St. Louis Cardinals - Signed P Ricardo Rincon to a 2-year contract worth $2.9 million.
Oakland was smart to let the boat sail on Rincon as his peripherals have been going the wrong way for years. Rincon managed a .247 BABIP in 2005, but even that was only enough to net him a 4.34 ERA (101 ERA+) for the A’s. He’s going to another good defense, but he’ll be hard-pressed to match that .247 figure again (ZiPS says .274). On the other hand, Dave Duncan’s wrung a lot of downhill-heading vets, so the Cards may very well get performance out of Rincon. Rincon will be the primary LOOGY for the Cards. Last time he was in the NL, he was traded for Brian Giles. The odds on that happening again, are, well, not good.
