Cardinals - Signed Rincon

St. Louis Cardinals - Signed P Ricardo Rincon to a 2-year contract worth $2.9 million.

Oakland was smart to let the boat sail on Rincon as his peripherals have been going the wrong way for years.  Rincon managed a .247 BABIP in 2005, but even that was only enough to net him a 4.34 ERA (101 ERA+) for the A’s.  He’s going to another good defense, but he’ll be hard-pressed to match that .247 figure again (ZiPS says .274).  On the other hand, Dave Duncan’s wrung a lot of downhill-heading vets, so the Cards may very well get performance out of Rincon.  Rincon will be the primary LOOGY for the Cards.  Last time he was in the NL, he was traded for Brian Giles.  The odds on that happening again, are, well, not good.

I certainly hope he gets traded for Brian Giles in the middle of this season.

What are the chances that happens during a STL-SDP doubleheader?

How did I know I was not going to be the first person in this thread to hope for a Giles trade?

Of the two LOOGYs on the market - Myers and Rincon - Rincon is probably the better option, because you know, every right handed hitter doesn't morph into Albert Pujols against him.

No JC Romero report?

The arbitration offer mystified and frightened me. I'm glad nothing came of it.

Ron Flores...c'mon down!

Where's the entry on the Roberto Hernandez signing? Inquiring minds want to know.

No draft pick. Rincon was not good enough.

Sometimes I think people inside baseball have enough of a sense of humor to do this to us hardcore fans.

Ron Flores...c'mon down!

The Flores brothers could be like the Grammatica brothers for LOOGYs.

Be sure not to forget the Franco signing. The possibilities are endless for that entry.

This does nothing for me. Or the Cards, for that matter.

Might make it more likely that the Phils sign Looper. Sad, I know, that it's come to that.

Whew!

I'm sure Tyler Johnson and Carmen Cali are just thrilled.

Carmen Cali being one man further from the major league roster is probably the best spin on this signing.

Were Bob and Ken Patterson brothers?
