Cubs - Called up Leicester

Recalled P John Leicester; optioned P Roberto Novoa to Iowa.

The Cubs called up Leicester in time to make last night’s rainy start against the Mets, with Novoa (who I believe had the honor of first pitcher caught under drug-testing if you consider that Turnbow’s was a technicality) sent down to make room.  Both before and after the rain delay, it was an ugly start for Leicester and he was very fortunate to even escape his scoreless 3rd inning without a run allowed.  But, then again, they did tell him that he was replacing The Dumpster, so he might have felt compelled to put on a show equal to that of the garbage receptacle-cum-pitcher.

Novoa's test came in international competition, so I don't know whether that counts or not. If it does, it doesn't matter what you think of Turnbow, because I'm pretty sure Novoa's came first.

How can Leicester get promoted when they only finished 15th in the League Cahampionship?

You can enter Leicester right after entering Spencer, but I think you'll prefer moving on to Lowell, Lynn, or Lawrence, and finally Marion.

Why was Turnbows a technicality? Was it the substance or just that he was caught ininternational competition?

It's tough to judge a pitcher in those conditions. I'm not entirely sure why Leicester was starting as opposed to Mitre or Wellemeyer (both of whom have been starting at Iowa), but whatever. It's the Cubs.

While we don't know if the current players are telling the truth, in this case, Turnbow's positive was revealed as being for a legal, OTC drug. He was more stupid than cheating.

My guess is that Mitre pitched over the weekend and wasn't ready for a Monday start.
