Transaction Oracle— A Timely Look at Transactions as They Happen

Cubs - Signed Mabry
Chicago Cubs - Signed OF John Mabry to a 1-year contract.
No specifics on the money involved have leaked yet (or if they have, I’ve not seen them), but I’d guess this to be in the $1 million range. There’s nothing Mabry can do that, say, Andy Abad couldn’t do for a third of the price, the exception being standing at third and pretending to be a third baseman. This is a minor upgrade for the Cubs and if the team could have a bench of John Mabrys instead of Jose Maciases, they’d be much the better for it. Pray Aram stays healthy - you don’t want Mabry at 3rd.

1. Andere RichtingenCheck one: __ Yes __ No __ Mabry
I said it in the Furcal thread on the Cubs blog, and I'll say it here: No f'in way.
Murton in 2006 is in a much better spot than Dubois in 2005. He's already proven to be a better defender and baserunner than Dubois (nothing Jason was gonna hit was gonna overcome those defecencies in Dusty's mind) and has already had some success hitting at this level. He's not a complete unknown to Dusty.
Mabry in 2006 is not coming off the same great fluke injury season that Holly was in 2005. He doesn't have a history with Dusty yet.
I don't see it happenning.
Blanco
Cedeno
Hairston
Mabry
?????
We need like one more guy, and knowing Dusty he's going to have to be able to play 7 positions, none of them well. Welcome back Macias!
Rest of the division should give up now. Cubs will have a bench and bullpen in 2006.
What more could you ask for?
ok -I want Steve Stone back to explain what went wrong.
Yes, even LaRussa finally stopped putting Mabry at third late last year, preferring not only Nunez but Hector Luna or even Scott Seibel.
Some days you'd look at the linuep and think:
"Mabry not today, Mabry not tomorrow, but Luna for the rest of your life."
Where do we stand on banning people from the site? I can't see another pun like this, I just can't.
Please think of the children!
I know the Cubs' offseason signings have been pretty rough on you--maybe you just need to get some fresh Eyre.
He aint gonna let you post Momah on this site, DCW. You better take a Walker in the Park

A bad play on words repeated just gets worse. I luv this

As I said in the Furcal thread, mabry he'll fill the Holly role to Murton's Dubois, and mabry he won't. I'm reasonably confident that *someone* will, though, if it isn't Mabry.
Perhaps Moses is right and the last three weeks of the season were enough to sway Dusty. I'm not convinced of this, however.
If I try to fit in Maddux, this is going to stretch to the breaking point.
[Primey for this thread]
Then you will definitely earn our Eyre!

That was kind of a Lowe blow, I realize...
its not the wright thing to do,
though it mabry my time to eat some Humber Pie.
If Dusty called, Shawon Dunston would listen. A former Cub and a fan favorite.
Too bad there aren't any players currently in the league named Goetz.
That whole thing was written in one night during a bout of severe insomnia.

The second one was a Cub, though... it appears I missed my chance at baseball pun immortality.
Perhaps not at that price.
adios amigos
I'm sorry. These are terrible puns.
*runs screaming from the room*
Yeah, well--at least I know where my damn stapler is.
Over in the Konerko thread, it seems like a lot of Angels fans are pretty happy not to have him, maybe because they remember the last time their team signed a big, slugging first baseman, but I think they really should try to put it behind them and Mo Vaughn with their lives. Of course, I'm not a White Sox fan, so it really doesn't matter Thome.
