DBacks - Acquired Worrell

Arizona Diamondbacks - Acquired P Tim Worrell from the Philadelphia Phillies for IF Matt Kata

Good change of scenery for Worrell - Phoenix is a far less stressful place to play than Philadelphia, which is pretty important for a guy who seems to have had a nervous breakdown. It remains to be seen if Worrell will ever pitch well again, but while Kata’s a useful role player, they didn’t seem to care about his existence anyway. Kata could replace Ramon Martinez adquately, but he’ll be a Red Baron. I think a projection for Worrell might be worthless in what is an unusual situation.

I thought Bruney would do better than he has. I assume his blow-up last night contributed to the "Backs wanting Worrell TODAY.This is a good, small-scale gamble by AZ.

Worrell lives in a suburb of Phoenix, so he'll get to spend much more time with his family - which should help with the stress also.

Valverde is the real D-Back closer - it's up to Melvin to realize that. Bruney's got a solid track record in the minors, but has inadequate control and no consistent offspeed pitch.

Brian Bruney is a hilarious guy though. I was in the picnic area at Shea last month and he kept throwing balls hit in batting practice just short of the bleachers at Shea so everyone would get excited.

After a while I got his attention and he signed a ball for me... but when I got it back, I saw that it read "Kerry Ligtenberg". How random is that? When I asked him what his name was (this whole time he's wearing his jacket, by the way) he told me he was Mike Fetters, and proceeded to do the Fetters face when I asked him to prove it.

Eventually I did get my Bruney autugraph though. Haha.

Obviously Mr. Vortex does not know his TripleA teams. :) Ladies and Gentlemen, leading off for your Scranton-Wilkes Barre Red Barons, Matt Kata! Is that the Organized Baseball Name with the most non-alphabetic characters? I count 3 spaces and a hyphen.

It's not "Scranton-Wilkes Barre", it's "Scranton/Wilkes-Barre". Wilkes-Barre itself proudly holds the honor of being America's largest hyphenated city (I believe #2 is Winston-Salem, N.C.), and as such when combined with Scranton they have to be joined with a slash instead of the hyphen used for such other metropoles as Salem-Keyser and Fargo-Moorhead.

That is probably the only Organized Baseball Name with both a slash and a hyphen, though.
