Dodgers - Signed Alomar Jr.

Los Angeles Dodgers - Signed C Sandy Alomar Jr. to a 1-year contract.

Alomar should finish his career backing up Dioner Navarro.  I guess Alomar could steal some of Navarro’s playing time, as Grady Little is simply too awesome to spend time learning what different players do and Little might have heard of Alomar before.  Emphasis on might.

If Navarro goes down, Russ Martin should get the nod, not Alomar.  It’s really quite amazing that Sandy ended up outlasting Roberto.

But is he a better hitter than Gary Bennett? And, if so, by precisely how much?

How come Piazza doesn't get a chance to backup anyone? Huh? Huh?

I'll bet you a dollar that Grady Little thinks Sandy Alomar is Roberto Alomar.

How come Piazza doesn't get a chance to backup anyone?

Piazza as a backup in LA would be a media circus - he'd hit a homerun and everybody would think he should be the starter.

I'm sure that Martin would be called up if either catcher goes on the dl.

We'll know for sure the first time Sandy pushed Kent to first.

Anyone else things Alomar will die from exhaustion starting a day game after catching both games in a doubleheader the day before? I can hear Grady:

"I went out there in the 8th, and asked him if he was OK, and he gurgled. So I went with my gut.... Yeah, I'll make sure to send flowers to his widow."

Levski, I know that you are just trying to be funny, but you are not. That is more cruel than it is funny. If you don't have anything good to post, then just don't post.

Alomar is replacement level at best at this point. The Dodgers should just go with Navarro/Martin spliting time 50/50. If one gets injured, then an Alomar type should be readily available as a free agent or easy trade target.

I think it's funny because Alomar is old and could die at any moment. And Grady Little has a slow hook.

Can we get a transaction oracle for Rosenthal releasing his glasses and DFAing his inner dork? Look at this picture of him. What happened?

He still looks like a dork, just now he's a dork trying to get himself some of that sweet poontang.

I still think he can take out Jayson Stark in mortal combat.

I chortled in amusement.

Every year, there's a mid-December signing of a guy that makes me think "X? I thought X retired last year?"

This year that X = Sandy Alomar.

When you play only 60 games a year, it's pretty easy to outlast your more diligent brother.

I would guess that Roberto was expectorating this all along.
