Dodgers - Signed Martinez
Los Angeles Dodgers - Signed IF Ramon Martinez to a 1-year contract.
The terms are undisclosed. I wouldn’t personally have done this, mainly because the Dodgers already have Marlon Anderson under contract. Neither Martinez or Anderson have particularly good gloves and if I’m carrying two utility guys, I’d want one able to be able to be able to play a good shortstop. Now, the Dodgers may end up with one of those depending on what happens at 3rd base this offseason, but if Betemit ends up being a backup, than Martinez becomes completely superfluous. I expect either Betemit or LaRoche to be traded, though.

The Pirates tried that once. It didn't go so well.
Even if the Dodgers sign a third baseman, Betemit is insurance at second base, since Kent is nearing his last legs - and even if Kent is hitting, he could end up at first if Nomar isn't resigned (which is unlikely) and Loney starts out the year in a slump.
Ah, I was under the impression that his shoulder would be OK by the spring. I still think that one or the other will be traded at some point.
If the Dodgers sign Ramirez, Betemit or LaRoche could be gone - more likely LaRoche unless they think he can move to second base.
I doubt Nomar would move permanently to 3B. He was playing 1B and still got injured, and I don't think Colletti is the type of GM to ask a veteran to move for a rookie. I think Nomar would be best utilized all over, maybe 3B/1B/LF/DH depending on team needs, but he expressed displeasure at such a notion last year.
