Florida Marlins - Signed Alfonseca, Jones

Florida Marlins - Signed P Antonio Alfonseca to a 2-year contract; signed P Todd Jones to a 1-year contract.

The Alfonseca contract is $4.75 million, so this is comparable to the Sox signing of Hermanson.  How many ways can one say “mediocre reliever, overpriced?”  Just cut and paste the Sox comment, add a joke about extra fingers, and mention that Miracle Mazzone isn’t coming to town, too.  Todd Jones is mediocre, at apparently a lower price than Alfonseca.  Florida’s a gay marriage ban state, so that should make Jones happy.  Yes, I notice the ZiPS similarity.

2005 ZiPS Projections

Jones       4   4 69   0   72   73   33   4 31 48 4.13

ZIPS seems to think that they are almost exactly the same pitcher.

Except that Alfie is gay and Jones hates gays.

You need to fix the extra finger adjustment statistic.

Seriously, I wish nothing but badness on Alfonseca. He was a train wreck for the Cubs in 2003, and not only that, but a train wreck who whined when Borowski supplanted him as closer.

It takes a train to whine.

When did Rachel Phelps buy the Marlins?

Dang, levski, already posted my joke.

Again, this kept the Mets from screwing this up.

No Princess Bride reference yet?

Jones may freak when he sees how queer Alfonseca's hands are....

Chris, I think more along the lines of...

"You have six fingers on your right hand, someone was looking for you."

I was impressed with your ability to churn out Goodnight Moon entirely from memory - I am the same way with The Princess Bride

The Marlins bullpen is now long on fingers and short on brains.
