Giants - Signed Willis
San Francisco Giants - Signed P Dontrelle Willis to a minor-league contract.
I’m convinced that the Giants are making this signing to make Todd Wellemeyer hurry back. Not a lot of pitchers would make a team pray for the quick and safe return of Wellemeyer, but Willis just might fit the bill. I’d do a scan of the level of toast that Willis appears to be at the moment, but I’m a little worried that a grainy pail of carbon would find it’s way into the bowels of my scanner, causing havoc.
More seriously, Willis is a temporary emergency option for the Giants - I was a little worried about Madison Bumgarner a few months ago, but he’s very solid since being called up.
I have Willis as a 5.85 ERA the rest of the season with the Giants (sorry, my pretty template isn’t on this computer).
Other Random Stuff
Mariners sign Jamey Wright and Chad Cordero refused his assignment. Cordero may be even toastier than the pile of carbon I referenced for Willis. Wright could be a serviceable reliever for the Mariners, given that the infield defense is very good, but the team has to remember what teams always forget - don’t count on Jamey Wright. Need a not-horrific 7th reliever that can keep an ERA below 5? He’s fine. Want Wright in a position to affect whether a team wins or loses a game? No.
Heyward’s off the DL. Much better “acquisition” than Seabass.

I doubt that. Bumgarner has not had enough starts to eclipse the Chez just yet. You realize that, even though he's had a few poor outings lately and his ERA has climbed by a run, Sanchez is currently 16th in ERA+ in the NL (among qualified pitchers) and 21st in ERA? In other words, in a 16-team league, Sanchez is pretty much the bottom end of a No. 1 starter.
