Giants - Acquired Stanton

San Francisco Giants - Acquired P Mike Stanton from the Washington Nationals for P Shairon Martis

Kind of a noodle-scratcher for the Giants.  Mike Stanton’s not very good and more to the point, not as good as the Giants’ other lefty options, even the disappointing Jack Taschner.  Mairtis was 11th in Sickels’ Top 20 for the Giants and he’s pitching well in the Sally League at 19.  The Giants are in a position to compete and should be trading pitchers like Mairtis when the opportunity to fill a hole on the team comes up, but not for Mike Stanton.

Martis is the guy who no-hit Panama in the WBC. Not that it's supposed to matter, but I had thought he was a white guy from the Netherlands until now. He is from Curacao like Andruw.

Yeah - Panama's hitting was simply horrific in that game.
