Giants - Resigned Fassero

San Francisco Giants - Signed P Jeff Fassero to a 1-year contract.

Can hardly call this a great signing by any means as this 2005 is the first time Fassero has made a positive contribution in a number of years.  There are a lot of things in favor of this contract, however.  Fassero’s is a bit better when you consider his terrible stint as a starter this season and though financial details haven’t been disclosed, i’m guessing he’s not making $15,000,000.  It pays to have a reliever who can be used as a real long man and will take the unexciting job of mopup guy without complaining.

2005 salary was reported as $750,000. In 2005 he was paid $500,000 salary plus $120,000 incentives and bonuses.

He'll be an emergency starter, the last man out of the bullpen and a de facto coach.

And if the Giants find themselves in a race and need somebody better for the pen, he can be moved to Fresno for only $125k a month.

Well, maybe the combination of the Giant's park and lucked caused him to have a decent season in 2005. But for the prior 3 seasons, he was at repl level, and at his age that's what I expect him to be in 2006. You can talk about his ability to fill a role, etc., but IMO a team should worry about quality first and then figure out how to fill the roles.

If he were, then there is one less team the Dodgers have to worry about.

There's no team for the Dodgers to worry about, Gagne; they've officially become Orioles-west.

Boy, the 49ers are going to beat the Bucs! I've been picking 'em all week, but I should have put money on it.

You think The Colobay Rockarays are going to bust a move in '06?

Jeff Fassero? Why don't you come to your senses?
His pitches have flown over fences, for so long now.
Oh, he's a bad one
but Sabean you've got your reasons:
Paying Bonds all these seasons
has hurt you and how.
