Giants - Signed Bonds

San Francisco Giants - Signed OF Barry Bonds to a 1-year contract.

Almost automatic - the Giants had no choice here.  The Giants are essentially screwed either way, but given a choice between an awful team with Bonds and an awful team without Bonds, you have to pick the choice that gives people a reason to come to the stadium.  If you see a gambling site anywhere that takes future bets for worst team in baseball, I’d put some dough down on the Giants - Brian Sabean’s done a horrific job building the future of the Giants.

As for Bonds?  He’s Bonds.  Is there anything that I could say here that hasn’t been debated to death?  Bonds will hit a lot when he’s healthy and when he’s not, the Giants will be a joke.

I like it that ZiPS projects that he ends up with exactly 755 homers at the end of the year.

I like it that ZiPS projects Bonds, at age 42, to have a roughly 1 in 6 chance of posting a .500 OBP, and that it doesn't even seem that crazy.

Did we ever get a Transaction Oracle properly mocking the Jason Marquis signing?

(I hate to be demanding, I was just noticing it slipped under the radar. Plus, it's a comedy gold mine!)

I'm with Hendry's Wad. Bring on the Marquis mockerama!

I think ZiPS got mad at Dan because it thought he was trying to make fun of it when he asked for a Jason Marquis projection.

Did you know: Barry Bonds was the model for the First Evil in the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

True fact.

I also hear that he's the model for Morgoth in the upcoming Silmarillion movie series.

True fact.

Good. False facts have always annoyed me.

That seems like a lot of runs scored for someone who can barely run. I like kevin's projection much better.

Oh, ye Gods, how long would that winter be?

kevin, I'm curious: do you have an opinion one way or another on Barry Bonds? I'd be really interested to find out...

That seems like a lot of runs scored for someone who can barely run.
The projection has him knocking himself in 21 times, leaving 50 times for others to knock him in, out of 164 times on base. Royce Clayton has only been on base that many times in his whole career.
