OK, I think I'm beginning to get this Jeff Francoeur thing.
As to the merits: is this that bad an acquisition if, as it appears, he's going to be the short side of a platoon? Frenchy can hit lefties a bit, and can play non-awful defense. That's not worth much, but the Rangers didn't give up much.
No he ain't.
God I miss these.
This is the conundrum of Francoeur. He is not a completely horrible player like say Kevin Cash. The problem is that the Braves and then the Mets seemed determined to make him a regular player, a role he was utterly miscast for. As a platoon partner/4th outfielder type he is a reasonable guy to have around. Of course his whining both in Atlanta and New York about being a backup does not inspire confidence that he will slide into this role in the long term well.
Because nature cannot abide smug sabrematricians.
