Indians - Signed Wood
Cleveland Indians - Signed P Kerry Wood to a 2-year, $20.5 million contract.
The Indians are rolling the dice here. While Wood’s as good a pitcher as pretty much any other closer in baseball, 2008 was also the first season in which he was generally healthy since 2003. The team still has to make more moves to be more than a “maybe” contender.

1. oldjacket Posted: December 14, 2008 at 06:20 PM (#3028674)The Giants home network replayed the top 10 fan favorite games over the franchise history, and I believe no less than three involved Jay Howell getting torched in the ninth inning (twice with the Dodgers, once with the Braves). Good times!
He's right. Gags had a much better pedigree than Wood, and at 1/$10 million, he was looked at as overpriced.
I know what closers get, but that's a lot of moolah for a dice roll.
I think there was a pretty good post that would dispute this.
Only if there's some definition of pedigree that specifically ignores the fact that 2007 Gagne bore no resemblance to the pitcher he was before the injuries.
This is the third game that you mentioned. I don't think that allowing two inherited runners to score via a couple of sacrifice flies really qualifies as getting torched, though.
And his home is near their spring training facility, so when he rehabs, he's close to home! It all works out!

Sophmoric, I know....
