Transaction Oracle— A Timely Look at Transactions as They Happen

Mariners - Acquired Broussard; DFAed Everett
Seattle Mariners - Acquired 1B Ben Broussard from the Cleveland Indians for OF Shin-Soo Choo; designated Carl Everett for assignment.
The reasoning for the Broussard trade is simple.
Position BA/OBP/SLG
Cleveland 1B 320/365/546
Seattle DH 237/303/367
The Mariners now have both parts of the unbelievably productive Indian platoon on the team, which is a big improvement over Jurassic Carl. Maybe the Mariners can convince him that guaranteed contracts aren’t in the bible. After being both unproductive and disruptive, I’m sure the team would’ve been happy if he had been turned into a pillar of salt or something.
Broussard came cheaply as Choo’s not a very good bet to be a starter in the majors, but considering the Brewers got so little of future value for Carlos Lee, Mark Shapiro may have done well just to get someone above the organizational soldier level of prospectishness. Broussard simply didn’t fit in the teams’ long-term plans as they still would like to find a place for Ryan Garko to play and Victor Martinez’ move away from catcher seems more a question of when than if.

1. The Ghost of Sox Fans PastRDF, Dan. Carl's option for next year was getting near the vesting point (450 or 500 PA's), despite the fact that he was far and away the least productive DH in the league. Why it took so long is still unknown, but he's gone, thank goodness.
Yes, Choo looks like a 4th outfielder at best. However, there is a PTBNL coming from the M's as well. It looks like decent deal both ways unless that player is one of the top prospects in the Seattle system. There was some thought that Cleveland made out better on the Eduardo Perez trade last week, getting an excellent M's prospect, A. Cabrera.
Broussard is arb-eligible for a couple more years, and Eduardo Perez is signed for one more. That sets the DH position for 2007, or even 1B if Richie Sexson gets sent elsewhere. I was fearing a mortgage-the-future-for-2006 trade, which makes little sense to me.
How ironic is this: Seattle is in Cleveland for the weekend. Choo homered last night, his first MLB bomb, in a 1-0 Tribe win. Today, Broussard played in his first game for the Mariners and hit one out for an insurance run in a 3-2 M's win.
Rondell White says "hello".
I should have said Everett is the worst with a qualifying number of PA's. That's what I actually read elsewhere.
So how is White staying in the lineup?
Shannon Stewart and Torii Hunter are both hurt. I wonder what's become of Lew Ford.
Shannon Stewart and Torii Hunter are both hurt.
That, and a .348/.388/.609 line in July.
Is that time near (next year is what I heard), or was he excused from it?
