Marlins - Acquired Kim

Florida Marlins - Acquired P Byung-Hyun Kim from the Colorado Rockies for P Jorge Julio.

With the ZiPS Quarterpole DMB update almsot done, it’s time to get back down to bidness.

Kim clearly isn’t the pitcher that he used to be before his arm problems, so the idea of trading him for Jorge Julio isn’t as laughable as it would have been 3 or 4 years ago.  I’ll still take Kim as he can occasionally get a few right-handers in a row out still while Julio’s always a disaster waiting to happen.  Julio to even a humidor-laden Coors Field may not be pretty - opposing batters will love sitting dead red on his very fast, very straight fastball with no movement.  Kim will replace Wes Obermueller in the rotation for the Marlins, the latter being one of the few starters around that Kim will probably be a clear upgrade on, Obermueller’s sorta-okay performance tehis season notwithstanding.

Greg (Miami): Julio for Kim...who wins this trade?

SportsNation Buster Olney: (1:10 PM ET ) Greg: I will steal a line I heard from Joe Begnigno, who does daytime talk radio here in New York -- the other 28 teams, because they weren't involved.

I think Kim is a decent gamble.

It does kinda suck that the Marlins essentially gave up Yusmeiro Petit for a month of sucky Jorge Julio and five months of BH Kim.

Petit is getting rocked in AAA and all the things that made him an elite prospect, great k/9 and k/bb ratios, have all but disappeared. I don't think he is even a good prospect anymore.
