Marlins - Released Reese

Florida Marlins - Released IF Pokey Reese.

Reese disappeared for a few days, but I wouldn’t have released him for that. After all, Reese being AWOL helps a team’s play a lot more than Reese being ready for duty and “hitting” against another team’s pitchers. Dan Uggla is the clear frontrunner, but he’s more of a Mark Lewis-lite than a prospect and it wouldn’t take a lot to move him off of the top rung in the depth chart. Reese will go join St. Rey in hitting up women at Arby’s or whatever it is that washed-up shortstops do.

If he wasn't on a coke and hookers bender, I would submit the Yanks should take a look a Pokey for the utility middle infielder role.

He and Cairo would be preferrable to say, Cairo and Escalona.

Reese should've made enough money that he's on the wrong side of your Arby's litmus test.

It's 50/50 that Reese ends up playing at Iowa this year. The Cubs love these washed up shortstop types, and they'll need someone to promote when Dusty decides in late April that the Cedeno experiment isn't working and inserts Neifi as full-time starter.

Wasn't Pokey one of those "saves more runs on the defensive side than he squanders on the offensive side" players?

Anyway, at least he's got a ring. And he'll always get a warm round of applause at Fenway (or, heaven help him, McCoy).
