Mets - Acquired Nixon

New York Mets - Acquired OF Trottington Nixon from the Arizona Diamondbacks for future considerations.

Nixon was terrible for the Indians last year but he was hitting quite well for Tucson and the Mets are desperate. Desperate probably doesn’t even cover it, desperate was back when Endy Chavez decided this was a good season to not hit. I don’t know the exact word to describe the Mets situation, but considering that they were already on Fernando Tatis, they’re about two steps from frantically calling Danny Heep’s agent.

As bad as Nixon was in 2007, he really was a fine hitter at one point and if he’s actually fully healthy, this could turn out nicely for the Minaya and Randolph in their frantic attempts to keep their jobs. I don’t have the full-on ZiPS Supercomputer handy at the moment, but I have Nixon at 253/349/379 for the rest of the year, which the Mets will take.

Okay, I'm an idiot. I appreciate the humor though. And his middle name is "Trotman" which is moderately cool.

With a header "Mets-Acquired Nixon", I was hoping for a picture of Tricky Dick or at least Otis bunting to make the last out of the 92 series. Trot is such a letdown.

I was surprised yesterday to see that Richie Sexson's real name is "Richmond Lockwood Sexson". I had no idea he was a fop. His early peak and sharp decline should have been predictable.

No matter how many times I pull that trick with a nickname, I always get someone. I got 2 e-mails the time I insisted that the J in J.D. Drew stood for Jeroboam.
