Mets - Signed Oliver, Parra, Feliciano

New York Mets - Signed P Darren Oliver, P Jose Parra, and P Pedro Feliciano to minor contracts; non-tendered Kazuhisa Ishii.

All three of the signed players will provide depth for the Mets at Norfolk.  Oliver can also help the Mets if they branch out into beekeeping.  Ishii will probably sign a minor-league contract elsewhere.

I'm still waiting for the Matt Diaz/Braves Post...

Hey Dan,

Is that a joke about beekeeping? Is Dan Oliver a beekeeper? That's pretty cool if he is (I used to be a beekeeper). But I can't see it: summer is your busy season, and they wouldn't want a baseball player to get stung during the season.

Sorry if I'm being overly literal. I just miss bees and got all excited at the reference.

On the other hand, it would explain a lot about his performance, wouldn't it?

Thanks a lot! Now I have a vision of Chris Farley in my head.

Now YOU can rock me to sleep tonight...

If Oliver's really a beekeeper, that might be an even cooler offseason job than Richie Hebner's gravedigging.

I have a sick feeling that Darren Oliver is our James Baldwin/Scott Erickson for 2006.

The difference between 2006 and 2005/2004 should be that we have enough GOOD options that we shouldn't need to mess around with guys who were once thought to maybe have had the potential to be good. I hope.

Der Komminsk-sar,

Thank you for posting that. I was laughing out loud.
