Orioles - DFAed Matos
Baltimore Orioles - Designated OF Luis Matos for assignment; purchased the contract of Luis Terrero.
I’m very happy to see Matos go - while there were times he looked like he good be a decent player, his yearly injuries stalled his development and he’s turne out to be no more than a waiver 5th outfielder - a guy who takes the last outfield job and sometimes starts at center in April for a dumb team because he hit .350 in the spring.
Terrero’s been completely scorching the ball in Ottawa this year, but he’s still Luis Terrero and when it comes down to it, there won’t be much of a difference between the future careers of either Luis. What was impressive was Terrero’s 0-14 stint with the O’s earlier this season in that he actually looked worse than his stats - the way he was flailing, you’d expect to have seen a negative BA on the TV.
What’s really depressing is that I rather see Terrero playing than Brandon Fahey, who’s giving me Pete Stanicek flashbacks. It took the late 80s Orioles 400 plate appearances and a number of injuries before they realized that Stanicek was awful - I hope it doesn’t take these O’s as long.

1. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: July 07, 2006 at 05:45 PM (#2091075)I must say, I appreciated Perlozzo batting Fahey between Roberts and Mota against the White Sox this week. He killed a rally or two.
Hawk and DJ loved him for some reason.
He did go 4-for-8 in the series and he ran hard, so I guess that's why.
I think Fahey was just assuming the role Jeff "Screech" Fiorentino had last year as the scrawny rookie who did inexplicably well against the Sox and wasn't seen much the rest of the year.
That having been said, I think he would be a serious improvement for this year's Yankees.
But then he apologized when it was brought to his attention that he was upset with his trip to Matamoros, Mexico and that he had no problem with Luis Matos.
Heh.
