Orioles - DLed Bedard
Baltimore Orioles - Placed P Erik Bedard on the 15-day DL; recalled P Hayden Penn
It really saddens me to lose Bedard - Daniel Cabrera’s big games have gotten all the Orioles young pitcher press, but Bedard’s the one who’s been one of the best pitchers in the league, looking good enough to replace Mussina in my heart. Cabrera’s more electric, certainly, but he still doesn’t quite know where his pitches are going.
Penn to the majors is an aggressive promotion, but I find it fun. This is the most likable Oriole team for 10 years - stars that aren’t over the hill and an actual use of the minor league system. I can silently dream of a future Bedard/Cabrera/Maine/Penn front 4 even if he gets shelled. Good enough for me!

1. Cowboy Popup Posted: May 28, 2005 at 03:29 AM (#1367612)Admit it, you were tempted to leave that last part off, and I can't blame you. What were Penn's #s at AA (the great BA has conveniently scrubbed them the second he got promoted--what a wonderful idea in that it benefits no one and annoys almost everyone!). Seems like Dubose, who's got a 2.09 ERA and 40/13 K/BB might be a better choice if he's healthy.
Who are you, and what have you done with Dan? At least David N. is still crabby.
Personally, I liked the Guillen/Carter/Drabek/Charlton O's.
49 IP, 45 H, 20 R, 17 ER, 15 BB, 58 K, 3.18 ERA
Bedard joins Sheets, Millwood, and Williams on the DL on my fantasy squad. The D-Train's flying solo for now.
A little bit, but I knew if I left it off, I would hear about it, so I went out of my way to mention it just to have you see through me immediately.
Bedard joined a host of DLed pitcher on my team too. Is this a bad year for pitchers at this point? It seems like it to me but I smoke and drink alot, so my memory is hardly something to go on.
Sheets is supposed to come back tomorrow.
My fantasy squad's DL is Bedard, Vidro, Sledge, Dotel, and Mota.
It's a fairly deep league, so every loss hurts. I'm still in 2nd somehow. I'll go ahead and attribute it all to Brian Roberts.
Not fun.
Bonds, Vlad, Javy Lopez, Vidro, Harden, Millwood, Bedard. With Gagne just back and assorted minor Caleros along the way. At least I don't own Prior!
Going to games and seeing Chris Gomez DHing will do that to you. And David Newhan's sub-Mendoza ass batting second.
Still, I'm not that crabby right now. Brian Roberts is cheering me up greatly. We'll see what the pitching staff is like without Bedard, though.
Throw in Chipper missing lots of time with his obliques, Pedro missing a start with his hip, Thome and Borowski missing long stretches, and Shawn Green just being '05 Shawn Green, and it's enough to drop me from 10 points ahead to 10 points behind.
BTW, that rotation for the O's would probably have Penn closer to the top than as a #4. Maine is no better than a 4th starter, IMO.

That wasn't in any particular order, just the order they came to my fingers while I was typing.
