Orioles - Signed House, Tiffee
Baltimore Orioles - Signed C J.R. House and 3B Terry Tiffee to minor-league contracts.
Wow, the Orioles signed depth! Last season, to illustrate how bad the team depth was at Ottawa, Brandon Fahey was the fill-in leftfielder for the team and wasn’t obviously inferior to any of the team’s AAA outfielders.
House is the prize here. He’s not a great defensive catcher by any stretch of the imagination, but he fakes it better than Craig Wilson or Mike Stanley did. He also reportedly really works hard at his limited defensive skills there, so while he’s not Henry Blanco, you would hope that his skills won’t suddenly rot. Plus, if the Orioles give up this whole baseball thing due to ineptitude and decide to play football instead, they have a starting QB. True, they’d have to start giving up fat relievers if they want to build a good offensive line (how does a team that hates fat people so much always develop so many of them?), but I feel solid that they could take St. Peter’s or Austin Peay right now.
The Orioles have a good defensive starting catcher and I hope House makes the team, a huge improvement over the Orioles’ usual backup strategy of “Invite a bunch of awful hitting catchers to spring training and invite the one that speaks Spanish most fluently.” No word on how House feels about risking patients lives - I’m hoping he’d be against it.
Tiffee’s the 3B at Norfolk, used in the event of a Moramergency.

Dan could've made it funnier by diagramming J.R. House's "Statue of Liberty-triple play." ;) ...
