Padres - Acquired Hill, Signed Young

San Diego Padres - Signed IF Eric Young to a 1-year contract worth $700,000; acquired IF Bobby Hill from the Pirates for future considerations.

Nothing to complain about here as both Young and Hill are being brought in (or back, in the case of Young) as role players, not starters.  Both are up to that task and I’m kind of curious what the Padres are doing with Geoff Blum, who’s less valuable than either and also less valuable than Sean Burroughs who has yet to be dumped elsewhere.

The Pads are getting a nice little infield backup and PH in Hill. The man always leaves everything on the field.

I wonder who the PTBNL is. Given the time of year, he's probably Rule V-eligible.

It's amazing how so many fans root for Bobby Hill but his managers and GMs seem to hate him.

BCT says the PTBNL could be Clayton Hamilton, a 2003 pick on the Pirates who refused to sign and was drafted in 2004 by the Padres. He is a - surprise - pitcher. Stats.

A 23-year-old in Low A? Yeah, that sounds like someone the Pirates would want.

Is Bobby Hill projected to be better than Vinny Castilla in 2006?

I don't know why the Bucs even want players in these situations.

They should just get the most money they can.

Ogden Nutting might have to send a directive out about this.

So the net-net of that Aramis Ramirez trade is whomever winds up being named in this deal (aside from the cash savings!). Great. I imagine Littlefield chose the Padres to deal Hill to because they had a crappy non-prospect from the Pittsburgh area to send back - assuming the Clayton Hamilton rumor is true. He must've figured the sub-moronic demographic of the team's fan base would be excited to get a local kid in the organization and conveniently forget that they essentially traded the league's All-Star thirdbaseman for him.

Good luck Bobby Hill. You are probably worth a lot more than the scrub you got traded for. Just feel lucky that the Pads had a guy in their organization from Western Pennsylvania or else you may have been exchanged for Oliver Perez's old jockstrap.

Unfortunately for Buc fans, #7 is hilarious and true.
