Padres - Signed Blum

San Diego Padres - Signed IF Geoff Blum to a 1-year contract worth $500,000.

If Sean Burroughs wasn’t going to be traded before, he certainly is now.  Blum should back up Castilla and Loretta in 2006.  Of course, I could probably write “2B” or “3B” next to my water heater and it would probably provide a glove off the bench better than Blum.  Luckily, the Padres are at least getting what they’re paying for as Blum was apparently not as successful his big Series moment as Ray Knight was (the Mets ended up with Todd Hundley as their compensation pick - not a bad haul for an old 3B having an obvious fluke season).

That's three times the HR total I project for Burroughs. Good deal, Towers.

I'd be pleased for Gillick to take a shot at picking up Burroughs, if he can be gotten on the cheap. If he works out, you've gotten younger and better at third, and if he doesn't work out, you haven't given up too much.

I thought they had Beltre at 3b already...

Duh, Gillick is no longer in SEA. Brain fart.

Whew, glad levski had a brain fart - I spent like 10 minutes trying to figure out the joke!
