Padres - Signed Maddux

San Diego Padres - Signed P Greg Maddux to a 1-year contract worth $10 million or so.

A perfect fit for the Padres.  They replace Woody Williams nicely with a pitcher who’s still good and famous enough to ward off the idiots that are upset the Padres missed out on Sarge Lite and Maddux gets a perfect park to age gracefully.  Maddux also gets a decent chunk of dough and can reevaluate where his career stands after 2007.  ZiPS still thinks there’s a slight chance that he has one more Maddux Season in him.

2007 ZiPS Projection -  Greg Maddux

The 50% regular projection is a steal in today's market. The optimistic projection would be, uhh... more than a steal? A double steal?

He's projected to have a better ERA and more innings than Schmidt for next year? Wow.

I wouldn't mind to have that optimistic projection come true next season.

If the optimistic comes true, he'll sign with the Red Sox after next off-season for 5 years/120 million.

As a huge Maddux fan, I'd love to see it, but it ain't happening. I'd say the 50% middle projection is the optimistic one. (Actually, does the projection include park factors? I assumed not).

I thought the projection includes park factors. If it doesn't, the projection is incorrect. IMNSHO.

Projections include park factors - Petco is a good place for him. Don't forget, a league average pitcher in San Diego the last few years would have ERAs of 4.22, 3.85, and 4.01.
