Padres - Signed Young

San Diego Padres - Signed 2B-OF Eric Young to a 1-year contract.

This one is worth a million even.  Not a bad signing - nobody’s going to use Eric Young as a start anymore and he’s a suitable role player and proved to be a very good part-time for the Rangers last year, even filling in several times at short, which he had never played at the major league level.  I’d rather scrimp a little more on role players, but this is fine, especially in light of some of the other signings going around this winter.

The moment my second baseman in my NL only league (Marcus Giles) gets traded to the AL, I'm throwing all my cash on Young. His production will more than make up for the loss of Giles.

Is EY going to play much? Loretta, Greene, Burroughs, Blum all there too. Not sure if they plan on using him in the OF much.

The signings of Blum and Young spell the end of Ramon Vazquez's tenure in San Diego. Too bad.

Damian Jackson also has a spring-traning invite.

I have been wanting the Twins to pickup Vazquez for the last couple years after he fell out of favor in San Diego, he could be a cheap source of some OBP.

Eric Young, a rich man's Tony Womack. But a poorer man than Tony Womack.

So who would you rather have for 1 yr, $1M:

EY or Neifi?

But doesn't Neifi have those pictures of Dusty ####ing a billy-goat?

As a White Sox fan I'm pained by this signing... If I had a million dollars I would pay all of EY's salary to platoon with Willie Harris at second.

.294/.383/.436 -- vs. lefties the last three years looks like Babe Ruth compared to Willie Harris' career line of .186/.234/.233 against lefties.

Well, there's another guy to put on the "I thought he'd retired" list.

Young is fine at this rate. He can play the whole IF and play some of it well.

I don't see him playing much at all with Loretta and Burroughs around. Does this mean Burroughs is on the block? He does appear to have played 8 games at SS last year, but I can't see him being an adequate defender there.

Could the Padres be planning on using Young in CF?
