Phillies - Acquired Snelling
Philadelphia Phillies - Acquired OF Chris Snelling from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations.
The Phillies have been quite passive at attempting to bring Aaron Rowand back for 2008, so it seems very likely that Shane Victorino will play center. Snelling/Werth gives the Phillies an adequate platoon situation in right field, leaving the Phillies only needng to get a rightfielder for the other 500 plate appearances when Werth and Snelling are on the DL. ZiPS has no more idea of what Snelling is capable of at this point than I do. He was a top prospect for very good reasons and was available on the waiver-wire for equally good reasons; teams never actually get to witness the former.

I fully expected to see a burnt toast or some other humorous pictures when I clicked on Dan's post.
Baseball is overflowing with cash and Kyle Lohse and Carlos Silva are the best pitching bets on the free agent market to give long-term deals to. In this market, I have to save the big guns.
In Snelling's case, I figure it should be a picture of a torn ACL. Whatever that looks like. Sounds grotesque, but I wouldn't expect that to be beneath Dan to post.
Besides, I plan on blowing my injury snark wad with the Chicago Cubs Guide to Medical Diagnosis that I'm working on.
