Phillies - Recalled Howard

Philadelphia Phillies - Recalled 1B Ryan Howard from Scranton; placed 1B Jim Thome on the 15-day DL.

I wonder if Thome’s back and arm aren’t more damaged than is commonly believed.  While he has old player skills and you might expect him to decline fairly early, this has been a pretty damn steep breakdown.  2005 isn’t the best season to go into decline, either, thanks to the offseason steroids fun, though Thome doesn’t really look like the steroid prototype guy - more like a guy who eats too many ####### Big Macs and works out enough to turn some of it into muscle.  I think Thome really needs to lose a good 20 pounds this offseason.  Me too, but nobody expects me to hit 270/380/550.

Ryan Howard should get the majority of the playing time.  I think the best thing for the Phils is for Howard to kill the ball while Thome’s out and get traded for someone of value who’s not a middle reliever.  Howard’s got no defensive value and while he’s having an excellent season, I also think we’re looking at his peak year.  If another GM out there thinks that Howard’s as good a prospect as Nick Johnson or Frank Thomas were, might as well cash in on the disillusionment.

I'm really hoping the Phils decide they need a solid loogy and trade Howard to AZ for Javier Lopez. I do know Conor Jack is slated to play at 1B, but Dbacks fans will suffer subpar defense in LF too. Of course, AZ's best hitter plays in LF too. A problem.

I assume this is "Recalled Howard" in the sense of "Hey! I just remembered we have a guy in Scranton who hits better than half the guys on our roster!"

Hey. We're all forgetful sometimes. Glad to see that someone finally remembered.

Javier Lopez? Can't you try a little harder?

Hate to say it, but this could be a good move for the ballclub because Thome was killing them in the lineup.

Best case scenario, Howard hits the ball so well that when Thome returns, Chavez or Martinez is released and we Phinally get some pop off the bench. Whatever happens, some change is necessary because the team is in a serious funk.

BTW, sort of random, but does anybody know a way to get the Phillies announcers on MLB.TV. Whether there home or away, I always get the other teams broadcasters. I WANT MY HARRY!

Huh, I see Comcast boadcasts of the White Sox all the time. I wrote to MLB.COM but trying to contact them is like trying to get your vent fixed in Brazil !

Philadelphia's Comcast SportsNet has a special no TV rights deal.

And Ed Wade's head just exploded.

I would give up Alan Embree, Matt Mantei, AND John Halama for Ryan Howard! Ed Wade couldn't possibly say no!

Thanks Matt,
I'll draft my letter as soon as I finish my other ten letters of compliant to the Phillies.

Yeah? Well, I'll send Tony Womack, Jaret Wright, AND former MVP Jason Giambi.

You're going way in the wrong direction. There are no middle relievers in your trade proposal.

Throw in Stanton and you got a deal.
