Pirates - Signed Strickland

Pittsburgh Pirates - Signed P Scott Strickland to a minor-league contract.

Quiet little signing here, but it’s worth taking a flyer on Strickland if his elbow works - he was once a fine pitcher.  The Pirates won’t and shouldn’t be counting on him to play any important role in the ‘06 bullpen.  But, hey, Salomon Torres actually ended up with a career, which is a lot stranger than a Strickland comeback would be.

The Bucs have actually done well this year on NRIs. In addition to Strickland, they've bagged Britt Reames, Jason Alfaro, and Terry Adams.

Strickland's nice, as long as you remember to never, ever under any circumstances let him face a LHB.

Littlefield's penchant for dumpster diving at every position pays off in the bullpen, as that's a pretty good place to load up on guys who were/should have been/could be productive and give them all a chance to fight it out.

They could have done a lot worse than Rick White last year, I guess. The key decision is when to let go the guys who look good for while and then start to suck.
