Rangers - Acquired Leicester

Texas Rangers - Acquired P Jon Leicester from the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named.

The Cubs wanted the extra 40-man roster space and it beats simply waiving Leicester.  The Rangers, as usual, need all the pitching they can get and have a lot of room on their 40-man roster at the moment, so it’s worth taking a flyer on Leicester.  They may waiver him again before the winter’s over - Leicester’s still more of a thrower than a pitcher and his fastball, while fast, has proven to be pretty hittable.

Leicester is getting up there in years to hope for him to suddenly learn a second pitch.

FWIW, I think Wellemeyer is the better pitcher and he'll be jettisoned in a similar trade fairly soon.

That BB/SO ratio looks pretty ugly.

The 6.34 ERA will fit in nicely in Arlington.
