Red Sox - Signed Bard
Boston Red Sox - Signed C Josh Bard to a 1-year contract worth $2.6 million.
This contract is non-guaranteed, the Red Sox mainly trying to have as many options at catcher as they can, depending on what happens with Jason Varitek. 2008 was essentially a wasted season for Bard as he was recovering from offseason wrist surgery and spent large chunks of the season on DL with a bad ankle sprain (awkward homeplate collision with Pujols), and problems in both the right elbow and triceps. He’ll need to show he’s healthy to have a better offseason next year.
