Reds - Released Cruz, Purchased McCracken

Cincinnati Reds - Released 2B Frank Menechino and PH Jacob Cruz; designated 1B Andy Abad for assignment; purchased the contract of OF Quinton McCracken.

The Reds continue to thrash around in the water, making flurries of moves that show no short-term or long-term planning of any kind.  The Reds want Chris Denorfia in the minors so he can play every day - but, of course, he could be playing pretty much every day in the majors now but instead, the Louisville Bats get the benefit of his peak years instead of the Reds while the parent team plays utterly worthless Quinton McCracken.  Too many utility infielders?  Most teams would release the worst one rather than keeping him on the 25-man roster.  Most teams also wouldn’t reduce the number of utility infielders by calling one their backup first baseman and hitting him cleanup.

These are fascinating moves, but how about something about the Coco and Ortiz contracts?
