Royals - DLed Sweeney
Kansas City Royals - Placed P Ambr…Amborixo…Amborioxo…Steve Burgos and 1B Mike Sweeney on the 15-day DL; recalled P Jimmy Gobble and 1B Justin Huber.
Bad news for the Royals here, especially with Sweeney. While Sweeney being injured doesn’t hurt the Royals chances at making the playoffs (ha!), they’ve been really hoping that he’d stay healthy for the trading deadline. Wrist injuries have a nasty way of sapping power, so this could be trouble come 6 weeks from now.
Huber’s no longer a catching prospect, but he’s been tearing the cover off the ball and doing his best to show that the move all the way across the defensive spectrum didn’t kill his prospect status. Gobble, on the other hand, has pitched poorly, though not to the level of suck that his 6.63 ERA suggests.

1. danielj"Oooh, he can throw fast"
and he has no control, you rubes
If Huber shows anything, the Mets need a 1B.
Maybe the Royals could trade him to New York for some good stuff :P

That's funny. Is there universe where a Sweeney for Cameron type of trade makes sense? The Mets need some offense from first base. It would put a very good defensive outfield together for KC's young pitchers, and they could rebuild their infield around Teahan, Huber and a couple of good gloves. That might not be an instant playoff favorite, but it seems like a slightly better plan than rebuilding with Sweeney (as an injury prone 1B) and a more average set of outfielders.
And, even though I'm a Twins Fan, I hate to see Sweeney injured. Luckily, I'll be consoled by the knowledge that I won't have to discuss Ambri
He had a 4.44 ERA, so what does that say about Leo Nunez, Jose Lima, Ryan Jensen, Brian Anderson, Steve Stemle, etc. ?
/slits wrists.
The Library of BaBall, anyone?
His vision might be as good as Borges'. That could explain his performance.
Actually, he is a free agent after 2006.
The Royals are most likely stuck with Sweeney.
And how did Gobble manage to win any games with that ERA?
You're making the Royals sound like the Atlanta Hawks.
