Royals - Signed Olivo

Kansas City Royals - Signed C Miguel Olivo to a 1-year contract with an option for 2009.

Terms are undisclosed, but I’m guessing it’s a fairly inexpensive contract, as I’m giving Moore the benefit of the doubt and assuming that Olivo’s the backup catcher, which is something the Royals probably wouldn’t be interested in paying through the nose for.  The Royals could do far worse for a backup catcher and if you look at the catching depth in the upper levels of the system, they would have.  A lot of teams, with a reasonable defensive starting catcher, would probably do better with a player like Adam Melhuse or Tom Wilson were years ago, but with Greinke and Bannister and eventually, Hochevar and some others, the Royals might be smarter to have a good defensive plan B behind Buck.

Olivo, but no Hamilton/Volquez?

For some reason, that last comment made me think of Mr. Burns's lament that "yet if I were to have them killed, I would be the one to go to jail. That’s democracy for you."

Then it made me think of the "Dear Jackass" letter from the "Breakin' the Wand" essay in the '88 Abstract.

People, I beg of you, if you don't like what Dan does, for God's sake just go and ##### and whine elsewhere.

I guess I should have been clearer. I was trying to ask if a Hamilton/Volquez TO was coming.

Sorry to have ruined your morning though, JLAC. I'll go ahead and #### off, I guess.

Good job, guys, way to make it about what "Dan does."

Now we'll never see a TO on the Hamilton trade.

Having seen him play, this is decidedly untrue.

However, Olivo's projection is a perfectly respectable line for a backup catcher, and the Royals could have done a lot worse.

No Milton Bradley so far either. Ranger fans are distraught.

If Bell was managing, then Olivo would be gettin bizarre amounts of playing time as Buck was hitting a home run in every other game and hitting .187

And playing Olivo at third base!

Kinda surprised there weren't more teams after Olivo. I'd rather have him than say Paul LoDuca or Jason Kendall.
