Tigers - DFAed Rincon

Detroit Tigers - Designated P Juan Rincon for assignment.

With Willis being activated for a start against the Twins, Rincon was the logical cut from the bullpen.  Zach Miner takes Rincon’s place, assuming that Willis can actually pitch.  While Willis wasn’t great in his starts in the minors, he was at least able to take the mound and throw 6 innings, something he hasn’t been able to do for awhile.  Rincon will probably resurface, but he’s probably going to have to pitch in the minors for awhile, considering he hasn’t gotten anybody out since 2006 or so.

Rincon kind of fell apart after he was caught using steroids, right? Or was he good after that?

He was suspended in 2005, so he was still pretty good for the rest of that year and the next. I think he was just a case of a pretty small guy who's arm/build couldn't hold up to throwing 80 innings a year in relief, and just wore down.

It's too bad, because I always liked him.

Also, those ears created a lot of drag, which tended to wear on his arm.

Bullpen terrible in Twins series. Got to do something about it; division available.
