Tim Raines

Raines plays ninth game of retirement.

That didn’t last long. All the buzz back in May was that Raines didn’t want to have to come back from another injury at his age. I meant to make an entry awhile back when it was apparent that he wasn’t retiring after all, but I forgot.

It seems like I remember reading that he did make some sort of offer to Morris, but it was really low, and there was some "so he doesn't want to be a Yankee?" bluster when he turned it down. But that could be complete garbage.

For what it's worth, the Hall of Merit will arrive in "real time" tomorrow evening, when the 2007 elections results are annouced. (No point in maintaining suspense: we will elect Ripken, Gwynn, and McGwire.) We're going to proceed immediately to the 2008 election, so that we'll have it done before the Hall of Fame election. To that end, John Murphy has posted a Tim Raines discussion thread. If you think Raines should be in the Hall of Merit, then I'd suggest that you not work too hard trying to persuade us - I think we're already there. If you think Raines should be in the Hall of Fame, then maybe now is the time to raise your voice.

If we're going back to 2001, I'd just like to suggest to Primer readers that if someone suggests Barry Bonds is using steroids, don't argue with them about it, even if you disagree. Just politely move on.
