Tim Raines

Raines plays ninth game of retirement.

That didn’t last long.  All the buzz back in May was that Raines didn’t want to have to come back from another injury at his age.  I meant to make an entry awhile back when it was apparent that he wasn’t retiring after all, but I forgot.

Exactly how would anybody know for sure that Raines hasn't retired?

Or that that ws Tim Raines. Couldn't it have been (say) Ron LeFlore

IIRC, I don't think the word "blog" has been coined at the time yet.

which makes this thread extremely cool.

Yes, this...
I meant to make an entry awhile back when it was apparent that he wasn’t retiring after all, but I forgot.
... is classic pre-9/11 thinking.

Hmmm...the URL for this thread is the same as the new one, except with "oracle" instead of "hall_of_merit".

Did you type the URL in to get here?

Or maybe by typing in this thread we can send our insights through a wormhole, so they can be read by BTF readers in 2001!!!!

ATTENTION PHILLIES FANS! Do not, I repeat DO NOT allow Ed Wade to sign David Bell! Placido Polanco is the answer! I swear he is! Just give him a chance!

It seems like I remember reading that he did make some sort of offer to Morris, but it was really low, and there was some "so he doesn't want to be a Yankee?" bluster when he turned it down. But that could be complete garbage.

Oh, dear God. After positing the chance to talk to BTF readers on Sept. 1, 2001, what does Crispix want to talk to them about? David Bell and Placido Polanco. Ahem . . . Priorities???? There are earth-shattering events that are about to unfold, and you want them to talk to Ed Wade, Crispix????

And if all they can do is to affect baseball, might I just say that David Bell and Placido Polanco are child's play. Some Mets' fan back there . . . please find and hypnotize Jim Duquette and plant a subliminal suggestion that will forever give him a desperate aversion to Victor Zambrano. Never mind why. Just do it. You'll thank me later.

Oh, Sam, we all know that Bush and Cheney will never take seriously the warnings that come from a liberally biased entity like Baseball Primer.

Nothing would distract the administration from pushing its missile defense program through Congress.

For what it's worth, the Hall of Merit will arrive in "real time" tomorrow evening, when the 2007 elections results are annouced. (No point in maintaining suspense: we will elect Ripken, Gwynn, and McGwire.) We're going to proceed immediately to the 2008 election, so that we'll have it done before the Hall of Fame election. To that end, John Murphy has posted a Tim Raines discussion thread. If you think Raines should be in the Hall of Merit, then I'd suggest that you not work too hard trying to persuade us - I think we're already there. If you think Raines should be in the Hall of Fame, then maybe now is the time to raise your voice.

Don't worry, Twins fans, you're not getting contracted.

And sorry, Pirates fans, but Littlefield is not the answer...

Whiffey will, in fact, not prove to be your savior.

You'll probably be reminded of this a couple more times, but I wanted to get a headstart.

In high school, we started a NovaNet simulation league and built a bunch of cavernous stadia. Raines won the Triple Crown.

If we're going back to 2001, I'd just like to suggest to Primer readers that if someone suggests Barry Bonds is using steroids, don't argue with them about it, even if you disagree. Just politely move on.

Oh, and a note to myself: Fiesta, not Texas. You'll know what I mean when the time comes.

Hey guys, Happy Thanksgiving!!

Tango is looking for people to contribute to his Tim Raines HOF site.

He has the shell of the site here:
http://www.raines30.com

But it's empty for the moment, of course.

If you go to the "About Us" page on the site, there's a link in the lower right if you want to contact him about contributing.

Looks like Craig Burley and Jonah Keri will also be contributing, based on that page.

There's one article up "Leadoff Hitters", but other than that it's empty for the moment.

Looks like John Brattain, Craig Burley and Jonah Keri have already signed up to contribute.

If you have any interest in contributing, contact Tango through email, there's a 'contact us' link on the bottom left of the page I linked above.

I've been posting those comments in the Hall of Merit - it was just pointed out to me they are going here. I will tell Jim . . .

I'm guess these posts were misdirected here because the Hall of Merit thread and this one have the exact same name. Pretty funny quirk.
