Twins - Demoted Lohse, Recalled Bonser
Minnesota Twins - Optioned P Kyle Lohse to Rochester; recalled P Boof Bonser.
At the beginning of the season, I thought the Twins rotation of Santana/Radke/Silva/Baker/Lohse with Lirano to spare would be one of the best rotations in baseball. Instead, a quarter of the way through the season, Twin starters have a 6.43 ERA, making my prediction
wron awfu differently accurate. The Twins probably did the right thing with Silva, replacing him in the rotation with Liriano, who’s certainly earned the chance. Bonser is generally known as “that other guy in the Pierzynski trade” but after an underwhelming minor league career, he’s had a nice start with the the Red Wings and is the best in-house replacement while Lohse gets whatever together again in the minors. After Bonser, unless the Twins make a trade, the next short-term fix is to purchase Pete Munro’s contract, which isn’t as interesting any idea given that Munro hasn’t been very impressive the last couple of years. Then, you either really reach with Mike Smith or rush up one of the Harben/Simonitsch/Harben/Jones quartet, all of whom are decent (or better) prospects. The Twins seem unlikely to do the latter, given how long it took them to commit to Santana and Liriano, both of whom were better prospects than any player mentioned in this entry. I’m guessing the team wishes they had trade Lohse in the offseason; they’re not getting much from him now.

Didn't see Jones was demoted. Why? I can understand not wanting to demote Nick Blackburn, but surely one of those pitchers has earned to chance to send Henry Bonilla back to long relief in Rochester.
Gotta read my stuff more often, Dan :)
30 hits and 15 walks in 27 2/3 innings had something to do with it.
Look past the ERAs (which you need to do in the EL), and you can see that New Britain's pitching staff has actually been somewhat disappointing this year. Harben has more walks than Ks, Simonitsch more hits than IP, and Perkins has actually pitched quite effectively, but also has been hurting a bit and averaging less than 5 IP per start.

Best. Name. Ever.
ahh long live Tom Robbins
Considering it's a Giants blog, it still exists, but other a different name.
So, the wait is over.
Somewhat disappointing that I had to go all the way to wikipedia to find out Bonser's real name (John Paul).
Guy's still playing in indie ball. Saw him last year. Youneverknow...
Speaking of that, B-R has Melky Cabrera's real name as...Melky. I'm hoping against hope his real name is Melquiades.
If I'm not mistaken, he changed his legal name to "Boof," so while it may not be his birth name, it is his real name.
It's only disappointing because had he come up five years ago, we could've had a little time to refer to His Holiness as Pope Boof II.
