Twins - DFAed Batista
Minnesota Twins - Designated 3B Tony Batista for assignment; recalled SS Jason Bartlett.
It’s a good thing that the quality period of Batista’s career wasn’t long enough for him to develop a substantial fan following. Can you imagine a slew of kids emulating their hero by imitating that horrific batting stance? Yikes. The .303 OBP was pretty high for Batista, who’s been at .298 (Japan), .272, and .270 the last three years. He may have to go back to Japan to get another chance.
I think for brevity, I should just warp ahead for the Bartlett transaction in 2 weeks.
Minnesota Twins - Optioned SS Jason Bartlett to Rochester (AAA).
You could tell this was coming. With Bartlett making that one error last week and Juan Castro red-hot, bringing his OPS to almost .600, the Twins felt that their nearly league-worse offense had enough oomph to get them through the pennant race. Also, that time Bartlett struck out, Ron Gardenhire was upset that Bartlett went back to the dugout calmly rather than threatening to strangle the umpire with piano wire.

Jerry Gil has drawn 5 walks in 226 PA.
Jerry Gil is definately going to win the "Ozzie Guillen Award" for the 2000s if he gets regular playing time.
Heck, you could call him Ozzie Gil!
... and is spending as much time in CF as he is at SS.
