Twins - Outrighted Miller

Minnesota Twins - Outrighted C Corky Miller to Rochester; recalled 3B Terry Tiffee.

Good move by the Twins; Miller wasn’t accomplishing anything useful on the team, even if he is a legitimate backup catcher that can start for a few weeks and not kill the team.  Yes, the team is eternally worried about Mauer’s health, but it’s just not hard to find an emergency backup catcher.  As it stands right now, the Twins usually only have one legitimate bat on the bench and no-hit middle infielders being the option at 3rd behind Cuddyer, so this is a better use of the roster.

Lock Up Corky Miller!

He has one hit since Sept. 18, 2003

A fine 1-55 streak (.018)...he deserves to keep it going.

Its about time. This team has been playing with virtually no bench. Miller served no discernable purpose, and I guess that Mauer's knee is holding up OK.

Maybe, but the RLPA version of Corky Miller was the starting catcher in the 2006 All-Star Game. So lock him up indeed!

Are the Twins conceding the division to the White Sox?

What exactly is Gardenhire supposed to do if Mauer gets hurt in the 5th inning, Redmond comes on to replace him at catcher and gets hurt in the 7th inning, and then when Matt LeCroy comes up to bat in the 8th innning he gets hit in the head with a pitch? Who catches at that point? I know that Juan Castro and Nick Punto are both able to play a lot of positions, but neither has caught at the major league level. And you just can't win games in the big leagues without a veteran presence behind the plate.

Terry Tiffee deserves a shot. But not at the expense of your backup to your backup to your backup catcher. Stupid, stupid, stupid move by the Twins. At minimum, if you outright Miller, you have to call up a 12th pitcher. There's no way that you can get by with just the 11 currently on the roster.

Eventhough Lil Nicky Punto is doing reasonably well, I wonder if there is a chance we'd see Morneau, Tiffee, Cuddyer, and Bartlett play the infield spots at the same time?

He's back and healthy now. Look for a monster September, at least until Autrey gets another shot at him.

Why'd you trade Huber anyway, UCCF?
   13. sardonic Posted: May 05, 2005 at 08:04 AM (#1313114)
Who is this Jack Burdock? Identify yourself!
   14. Jack Burdock sans 1883 Posted: May 05, 2005 at 08:09 AM (#1313117)
Someone with a better record than /you/, sardonic. Muaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha! Ha. Ha. Uh... ha.
   15. sardonic Posted: May 05, 2005 at 08:19 AM (#1313123)
Psh. By a measely two games. And with a worse run differential.
   16. Nobody ##### with DeJesus Posted: May 05, 2005 at 08:51 AM (#1313132)
Speaking of stellar young players, why'd you trade Kearns, sardonic?
   17. sardonic Posted: May 05, 2005 at 10:17 AM (#1313149)
Because I'm an idiot and Tim Hudson was/is my favorite player IRL.
   18. Spicol Posted: May 05, 2005 at 03:10 PM (#1313423)
Kearns wasn't as good as he is now when sardonic traded him.
   19. Spicol Posted: May 05, 2005 at 03:10 PM (#1313426)
Um, why am I defending sardonic?
   20. RickG Posted: May 05, 2005 at 03:20 PM (#1313451)
Speaking of all this, why did Milwaukee trade Sizemore?

Oh wait...I am Milwaukee. My bad. Got confused.
   21. Hendry's Wad of Cash (UCCF) Posted: May 05, 2005 at 03:24 PM (#1313457)
Why'd you trade Huber anyway, UCCF?

Because one player wouldn't have made my team a contender. Huber's going to be awesome, but my pitching staff was a real train wreck (Ramirez excepted), and I had nothing in the system to remedy that. Ramirez, Guzman, Brownlie and ? isn't going to win anything unless I put together a 1000-run offense behind them.

Getting 4 pitchers back was totally worthwhile for me, and that was even before Hummel got the gorilla talent boost.

you jokers might as well at least put a link to the league (rlpa-ootp-online.com) so people have *some* idea what you're talking about... you could even say something about prospective owners .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if they're interested, since we're looking to expand by a few teams.

1/55... sounds like miller got Edwinned.

Speaking of all this, why did Milwaukee trade Sizemore?

I think the better question is: why did Milwaukee trade Sizemore not to me? What's with this trading embargo anyway?

Let's stop all the feudin and a fussin and talk about how good Greg Golson would look in a Houston uniform.
   24. Spicol Posted: May 05, 2005 at 03:33 PM (#1313489)
I consulted SUCKA and RLPA Corky Miller is performing at 110% of expectation. That's not bad!

I was going to ask in the thread if he was ridiculously over his projection. Of course, since the beaning I expect him to go all Dickie Thon on me. Damn you Scott Autrey, damn you and your libidinous whore of a sister!

She's comfortable in her own skin. You can't argue with that.

See. SUCKA doesn't have only bad news for you.

See. SUCKA doesn't have only bad news for you.

I was starting to think that SUCKA had it in for me. Every deal I made was met with scorn and ridicule. I'm happy to hear that recent talent boosts have brought SUCKA around on the Huber and Brownlie deals, though.

I'm not sure anything will bring Joe Sheehan around, though. In addition to the column, he also sent me a dead rat, Kingman-style.
   29. Spicol Posted: May 05, 2005 at 03:47 PM (#1313532)
SUCKA didn't comment on the Huber deal when it went down but SUCKA thought the Huber deal made sense.
   30. RickG Posted: May 05, 2005 at 03:53 PM (#1313547)
The only uniform Golson will wear in the bigs, for the forseeable future, is that of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Or the Seattle Pilots, on turn-back-the-clock day.

The biography: "Greg Golson, Playoff Hero" has a nice ring to it. Gotta get us there first, though.

Stop linking! It's bad enough that the other 20 people in the league have to see how badly I've done, I don't want others to see it as well!
   32. Spicol Posted: May 05, 2005 at 03:58 PM (#1313559)
You've got Morgan Ensberg now though, Raphe. You're on the right track.

We had this chat a couple weeks ago during a Twins chatter. The correct answer is Justin Morneau, who was a catcher for about the first eight minutes he was in the organization. The better question (then) was Who Is The Sixth Catcher (Mauer Redmond Miller LeCroy Morneau ???).

At least we won't be treated to the sight of Matt LeCroy ending the game pinch hitting against a right handed pitcher any time soon.
   35. Boomer Posted: May 05, 2005 at 04:19 PM (#1313606)
The 6th catcher is Johan Santana, I hear he has a good arm.
   36. Boomer Posted: May 05, 2005 at 04:21 PM (#1313607)
Santana likely has a better bat than Corky Miller too.
   37. sardonic Posted: May 05, 2005 at 06:28 PM (#1314137)
This is probably the first ever RLPA hijack ever. And I probably would have expected it to happen in the APBA thread. I would have done it, but I didn't want to steal his thunder.

I love that someone actually tried to turn this back into a Twins thread.

Somebody give #6 a Relpy. Sure, he's not an owner, but the man deserves it.
