White Sox - Acquired Blum

Chicago White Sox - Acquired 3B Geoff Blum from the San Diego Padres for P Ryan Meaux.

The White Sox are just picking up a little depth here, but there’s nothing wrong with that as they’re virtually guaranteed a playoff spot at this point.  Ozuna remains the preferred infield backup at this point, but Blum will get at-bats too (no reason not to give more days off at this point) and I’d rather have Blum on the team for double-switches come playoff time than Willie Harris.  Meaux’s a replaceable part - an older relief prospect who will probably have a career as a 2nd or 3rd bullpen lefty (he was acquired in the Lofton trade).

I'd rather have Blum on the team for double-switches come playoff time than Willie Harris.

I sincerely hope that Ozzie Guillen has the opportunity to enact some double switches in October.

This trade was so boring, this is only the second comment.

Are they giving thought to playing Blum over Crede?

A boring trade, but not a bad trade for either team. Blum is a useful backup player, especially for the White Sox given injury concerns. Blum can play multiple positions well - he's not a great hitter, but his career averages are acceptable for a utility infielder.

Meaux has a realistic chance of being a useful bullpen part for a few years, so he should have more value to the Padres than Blum would post-Randa trade.

A dull trade, but one useful to both teams. The lack of comments are probably most closely tied to the fact that there really aren't any negative comments to make about the trade - it's one that makes good sense for both teams.

No. Blum will occasionally spell Crede to give him a day off, I am guessing.

Yes! The WS is now ours.

Aw, what the hell, they didn't replace Marte or Crede, so who cares. Well, maybe they replaced Crede.
