White Sox - DLed El Duque

Chicago White Sox - Placed P Orlando Hernandez on the 15-day DL; recalled P Brandon McCarthy.

El Duque always has a shoulder problem, so this can hardly come as a surprise to anybody.  Hernandez was off to a terrific start but it’s clear that his shoulder has been bothering him for several weeks.  Not a huge loss for the White Sox; they could forsee this and it’s not as bad as losing Mark Buehrle or Jon Garland (Garland 8-0 with an ERA in the 2s still gets a WTF reaction from me).

Brandon McCarthy made the start against the Cubs and was very effective.  The timing worked out nicely; there’s not many better teams for a young starter who goes after hitters to debut against than Dusty Baker’s hackin’ Cubs.

Orlando Hernandez has been good, but has struggled this year. I figure McCarthy will outperform him.

As bad as his WHIP has been, his ERA is 3.91.

This was about as predictable as the sun coming up tomorrow.
