Yankees - Call up Melky

New York Yankees - Call up OF Melky Cabrera from Columbus (AAA); probably option OF Bubba Crosby to Columbus.

This has been rumored for some time and it helps the Yankees only in that it gets Tony Womack off the field - Cabrera’s just not ready to be a starter.  He’s very young and a good prospect, but a major league pennant race is probably above his skills at the moment.

Even Red Sox fans should feel sorry for the Yankees if this only serves to reduce Bernie’s playing time instead of Woe-mack’s.

If Melky acquits himself in anyway shape or form for during this callup, I think the Yanks should seriously consider a Bernky Willera jobshare for the rest of this year and perhaps into next year.

That doesn't add up to OPS of .750, does it?

Doesn't have to, as long as it adds up to > .542.

.542. heh, even my grandmother can top that

...as long as it adds up to > .542

Unfortunately, .542 is probably within the 95% confidence interval of that ZiPS projection.

Even Red Sox fans should feel sorry for the Yankees...

Good one, Dan. LMAO.

Any word on whether it's Crosby going down? Since Melky wasn't on the 40-man they're going to have to take someone off to get Cabrera on...

Oh, I'm guessing the Yankees will DFA Randy Johnson.

I can see them DFA'ing someone like Rey Sanchez or Kevin Reese. Crosby will be the one optioned to the minors, but probably not taken off the 40 man.

Could be Russ Johnson, too, couldn't it?

Why not just let Reese play center? Or put Vento in left and let Matsui play center? Either combo seems better.

Pavano goes on the DL, and Sanchez moves to the 60-day, to make room for Melky.

Wonder whether the Yankees will try to get Payton from the Sox...

In the Foulke DLed thread, Sox fans are claiming that God (ie, Gammons) had Payton going to OAK.
