Yankees - DLed Chacon and Crosby, Recalled Tlong, Signed Durazo

New York Yankees - Placed P Shawn Chacon on the 15-day disabled list; purchased the contract of OF Terrence Long, signed 1B Erubiel Durazo to a minor-league contract.

What sound does throwing a 180-pound wrench into a well-oiled machine make?  TLONG!  But, he is replacing Crosby, and remember, Long’s misplay of the ball hit in that Yanks-A’s ALDS a few years ago helped the Yankees more than Crosby ever has.

Chacon shouldn’t be out too long - you hate to see a guy get injured on a comebacker like the one Loretta hit off of Chacon’s leg, but it’s preferable to the more common “vague tendinitis” or “shoulder soreness” things pitchers get.  Wang and Mussina are the reasons the starting pitching is better than last year as long as they’re healthy, the Yankees will be just fine.

If Durazo’s healthy enough to play again, it’s pretty pathetic that the Cubs signed Tony Womack instead of him.  It’ll be funny if Dusty Baker gets fired - he’s skated by and not gotten fired for anything that deserved it and when he does go, it’ll be for something that’s not his fault.

From what I understand, Tlong was only called up because Kevin Thompson had a tweaked hammy.

No major league team that given T-Long 500 Plate Appearance has EVER failed to make the post-season.

Remember that.

I'll bet 1 million dollar that Colter is a Full Moon BBQ man. Dreamland is for fat [toads]. That belly is the product of many, many half-moon cookies and full slabs a' ribs. Live the dream, Colter, live the dream.

More fun with T-Long:

No Beane GMed major league team with T-Long has EVER failed to make the post-season.

No Beane GMed major league team without T-Long has EVER made the post-season.

No non-Beane GMed major league team with T-Long has EVER made the post-season.

No major league team with T-Long on it has EVER won a post-season series.

...until Farnsworth is 100%, anyway. According to the Trenton papers, the reason Bean was called up was that Torre wanted the extra pitcher (not that he ever really USES them, of course) because of Farnsworth's situation.

Bean's been used twice in two games (and looked awful last night).

Bean is aweful - I've been saying it for 2 years. He will not get big league hitters out regularly.

Let's give him more than two appearances before we have him drawn and quartered... I mean someone has to give hope to dumpy, bad-body guys like SJ and I.

Yanks are trying to gain the old mystique of when they used to have (KC) A's like Maris helping them win, so they need somebody like TLong to keep Damon and Giambi company. And Durazo might be able to tell Dotel what's going on in Spanish.
Look back:
Late '60's-early'70's. No notable ex A's, Yanks suck
Late '70's: Catfish and Reggie (Holtzman also) help them match up with the Big Red Machine
early '80's: Rickey for a few years, competitive but no titles.
Late 80's-early '90's: nobody but what the A's traded to get Rickey back, weak teams
Mid '90's: strong team with only a couple of ex-A's (Sierra)
Late '90's: Add Brosius and return to dynasty status
early 00's: Giambi in, Brosius out, strong team but no champs
late 00's: Add Damon and Dotel to Giambi, ??
