Yankees - Signed Bellhorn

New York Yankees - Signed 2B Mark Bellhorn.

Mark Bellhorn is one of the best defensive players on the Yankees now, which is the main problem with this signing as Bellhorn, though probably fair-to-adequate at second, it’s Bellhorn’s bat you want, at least when he’s not being too selective and getting his bat on nothing, which is the case this season.  Bellhorn’s main job with the Yankees will be to spell Cano and A-Rod down the stretch.  He’ll do OK at this job, but I don’t think Bellhorn’s a great fit with the Yankees, though they do love the Red Sox castoffs.

Fearless prediction:

Bellhorn home run on the last game of the season clinched the al east in NYY's favor. Red Sox nation goes from shock, to anger, to denial, finally to pre-2004 Red Sox nation. The Curse of the Horny Bell is born.

Really? I liked that episode.

Yankees aren't going far enough to get full value out of Bellhorn. They have to hire Dusty Baker as manager immediately so Dusty and Mark can recreate the magic they had on the Cubs.

Bellhorn's main job with the Yankees will be to spell Cano and A-Rod down the stretch.

If the Yankees are smart (jury's out on that), his main job will be to play second base against left-handed pitching.

Hey Dan, I have a couple of extra periods that would look nice interspersed in that first sentence.. :-)

I'm not sure why this loss would affect them too much, since they'd still get into the playoffs as the wild card. Unless maybe the Indians can make a run.
