Yankees - Signed Stinnett, Bergman

New York Yankees - Signed C Kelly Stinnett to a 1-year contract worth $650,000; signed P Dusty Bergman to a minor-league contract.

Good moves by the Yankees.  One of these days, Jorge Posada’s going to get injured badly and the Yankees are going to want someone a little better than John Flaherty hanging around.  Stinnett’s not a world-beater and will be a weakness for the Yanks if he has to start for an extended stint, but he’s more capable than a lot of the guys that have had the #2 catcher job in New York.  Bergman probably deserves a shot, but more likely he’s going to plug holes in the rotation and bullpen for the Clippers.

Bueller?

My initial reaction is sweet! He's a better hitter then Flaherty, and not an all or nothing guy that made Flaherty so damn frustrating. Is he better defensively? It's hard to imagine a backup catcher being worse.

My initial reaction was, "I know the Yankees like veterans, but did they really need Rennie Stennett and Dave Bergman?"
