Yanks - Signed Pettitte
New York Yankees - Signed P Andy Pettitte to a 1-year, $16 million contract.
Given what really marginal starting pitchers are getting this offseason, this isn’t a bad risk at all. And that’s before considering the fun of bringing back one of “your guys” for a farewell run. Pettitte will be a solidly above-average pitcher, not a great one, so anyone hoping that he’ll also come back to 1996/1997 form will probably be disappointed. I hope the Orioles do something similar with Mussina at the end of Moose’s career (if it’s not too late already).

Player option, with an oral agreement not to invoke the option in case of injury.
Wait, I thought all extra-contract deals were completely illegal! And what the #### kind of player option is it if you can't invoke it in case of "injury?"
He can, and he might. But he told them he wouldn't, and they believed him.
