I'm sad I can't make it - I moved to New York last summer, so I can't make it back into town for a meetup.

Ditto.

Well, except for the New York part. I'm in Florida now.

If you miss your plane back, Mattbert, keep heading west and you'll be just in time for Honkbal season.

Dan Werr? I thought he was sucked into a black hole in like 2005.

Anyway, I'm potentially game for meeting up.

i can probably do it. are we still thinking of catching the first pitch on friday?
   6. Mattbert Posted: March 28, 2011 at 04:09 PM (#3779667)
I would be psyched to meet up for the opener, but I've heard Fly can't make the first pitch (and perhaps not at all on Friday?). Fly and Biff were the only confirmed interested from the forums.

If Fly can maybe make it out a bit later on, then Friday pm works best for me. Could potentially wedge something in on Saturday though. I think Bivens might be available Saturday afternoon.

Also, we should work out where everyone's based and try to settle on a venue. I'll be based in Lexington from tomorrow evening through Saturday night.

And thanks Mikael for making this thread...

Unfortunately I'm unlikely to make it. I'm coaching Little League this year and we have practices scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I am in Jamaica Plain, but have a car.
I work in the Back Bay if we are thinking earlier on Friday.
I am flexible on timing and location, up to a point.

saturday is doubtful for me.

I'm completely available on Friday and Saturday, so whatever happens there is fine by me.

Also, we should work out where everyone's based and try to settle on a venue.

Well, I'm based near Manchester, NH, so I figure I'll be taking the T somewhere no matter where we end up.

I'm in Arlington. Friday would be better than saturday for me.
   12. Mattbert Posted: March 29, 2011 at 02:29 AM (#3780236)
Alright, I think there's a clear consensus for Friday.

How about a venue? I'm afraid I'll be next to no help here, as I've not lived anywhere near Boston in over a decade.

What's our goal? Sports bar? Cocktails? Dinner? Drinks only?
   14. Mattbert Posted: March 29, 2011 at 03:50 AM (#3780283)
TV with NESN and decent beer on tap are about all I'd be looking for. Not sure whether I'd be able to stick around for dinner after the game; would need further negotiation with Wifebert in that event.
   15. Famous Original Joe C Posted: March 29, 2011 at 03:45 PM (#3780517)
Weather forecast is looking bad for Friday, FWIW.
   16. Famous Original Joe C Posted: March 29, 2011 at 09:01 PM (#3780807)
Which would be relevant if they were playing in Boston. I am on top of things.
   17. Mattbert Posted: March 30, 2011 at 03:38 AM (#3781005)
I was wondering why the threat of a little rain was going to keep you from driving through town to park yourself in front of a television...

So are we doing this? I'll suggest Game On!, for lack of other suggestions. Perhaps the Fenway Beerworks would be a better suggestion, though, as it is less sports-bar-y, and probably will thus have a smaller crowd Opening Day.

I see myself ducking out of work around 4. I'd be able to be at a bar by 5ish. Maybe a smidge earlier.
   19. Famous Original Joe C Posted: March 31, 2011 at 01:41 PM (#3782111)
If we're in the city, I will be there...5-5:30ish. Fly, I hope they bring Papelbon in while we're both there.

Beerworks is fine with me. The food is decent (if people get hungry) and it's big. I'm open to almost anything, though.

Guys, sorry to report I may now not be able to make it tomorrow. Kidbert was in for a checkup with the doctor today, and they think there may be an issue with her eyes. So instead of watching the game, it looks like I will be spending the bulk of the day going to opthamologist appointments and, probably, getting glasses fitted for the poor kid. Joy.

Very frustrated to be backing out, but I don't see how I can justify escaping to spend a few hours with Some Guys From The Internet. As lovely as I'm sure you all are, of course. Apologies. Will try again next time...

Even though I was unlikely to make it that's a bummer. Here's hoping Kidbert is ok.

Since the guest of honor is out, and the plans were flimsy anyway, I'm going to back out too. We should have a real meetup that more people can make it to for another road game some other time this season.
   23. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: April 01, 2011 at 12:30 PM (#3783040)
Turns out I wasn't going to be able to make it either, so it's probably for the best.
   24. Famous Original Joe C Posted: April 01, 2011 at 01:42 PM (#3783078)
I'll be in for a future date as well. Hope Kidbert is well soon.
   25. Mattbert Posted: April 03, 2011 at 11:20 AM (#3784902)
Thanks, guys, for the kind words.

We are back in London now. Kidbert's eye thing has turned out to be fairly mild and can apparently be corrected by wearing glasses for the next 5-7 years or so, after which point she will naturally 'grow out of it'. She does look pretty cute running around in her little bifocals now...

Will keep ya'll posted on future visits to Boston. Hopefully it'll be a lot less than another 2.5 years until the next one!
